The Two Years

Both years cover the same four strands. What changes is the standard and the clock.

Year 4 — Building the Foundations

Two years out from the test, and the year to build method rather than speed. Every question type is introduced with a method taught explicitly and practised until it is automatic. Pupils meet all four strands from the start, so nothing arrives cold in Year 5.

Year 5 — The Final Preparation Year

The test is sat in the September your child starts Year 6, so this is the year the work moves to test pace. The same question types come round again at the standard the real paper sets, with the harder variants that only appear at the top of the range.
