Clever Clogs Academy

Safeguarding

You are trusting us with your child. Here is what that means in practice, what we hold, and what to do if you are ever worried about anything.

Two Qualified Teachers

Both of us are qualified teachers with classroom experience, not tutors who have moved into teaching from another field.

Enhanced DBS Checked

Both of us hold an enhanced DBS certificate dated within the last 12 months, or held on the Update Service. You are welcome to ask to see them at your introductory session.

Paediatric First Aid Trained

Both of us hold current paediatric first aid training.

The Tutors’ Association

Individual Members for 2026–27, which means working to the Association’s professional standards and code of ethics.

Trained to KCSIE

We work to the statutory guidance Keeping Children Safe in Education, and take regular safeguarding and Prevent training so we recognise the signs of abuse or neglect and know what to do about them.

Who to Contact

Designated Safeguarding Lead: Mathew McArthur — contact@cleverclogsacademy.com, 07455 084380. Every concern comes to him, and he is responsible for deciding what happens next.

If your concern is about us, you should not have to raise it with us. Buckinghamshire’s Local Authority Designated Officer is independent of us and can be reached on 01296 382 070 or secure-LADO@buckinghamshire.gov.uk. If a child is in immediate danger, call 999.

Who Teaches Your Child

Only Mat and Alicia. We do not employ other tutors, and we do not use agency or supply staff. Your child will never be taught by an adult you have not met yourself.

Two Adults in the Room

Every session of four or more pupils is taught by both of us. Groups are capped at six. Where a session is small enough to be taught by one of us, the other is on the premises.

Where We Teach

At our dedicated learning space at 41 Turnham Close, Winslow, Buckinghamshire MK18 3GQ. It is set up as a teaching room, not a family living room, and you are welcome to see it before you book — that is part of what the free introductory session is for.

Online Lessons

Online lessons are live and taught by us, never pre-recorded, and follow the same plan as the in-person group that week. A responsible adult must be present or contactable throughout the session, and with younger pupils we ask that you stay within earshot. Your child joins from a communal room rather than a bedroom. Beyond that you are welcome to watch as much or as little of the teaching as you like.

Nobody records a session without consent. We may record for safeguarding reasons, and pupils may not record or screenshot a lesson at all.

Raising a Concern About One of Us

We keep a clear whistleblowing culture: either of us can raise a concern about the other, or about anyone we work alongside, confidentially and without it going through the person concerned. Parents have the same route — the LADO details above exist precisely so that a concern about us never has to come to us first.

If You Are Worried About Something

Tell us. Email contact@cleverclogsacademy.com or call 07455 084380, and say as much or as little as you want to. We would far rather hear a concern that turns out to be nothing than not hear one that was something.

If a concern is about us, or you would rather not raise it with us, you can contact Buckinghamshire Council’s children’s services directly. If a child is in immediate danger, call 999.

Photographs

Mostly what we photograph is work — a page a child is proud of, a method laid out well — because that is what is worth celebrating and it identifies nobody.

We will never publish a photograph showing your child’s face on this website, on social media or anywhere else without your explicit prior consent, given in writing on your contract. Consent is genuinely optional, you can withdraw it at any time, and saying no changes nothing about your child’s place with us.

No child appears in our video lessons. The people in those are the two of us.

Ask Us Anything

Including the awkward questions. Due diligence is the right instinct, and we would rather answer it now than have you wondering.
