Health and Safety
The practical side of keeping your child safe while they are with us — fire, first aid, allergies and medication. Written to the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, and The Tutors’ Association Code of Practice.
In the Teaching Room
Fire Safety
Smoke detectors on every floor, tested weekly, and a carbon monoxide detector tested regularly. Escape routes are kept clear, and every new pupil is walked through the evacuation route and assembly point in their first session. No smoking or vaping on the premises.
First Aid
A fully stocked first aid kit is kept on the premises, and both of us hold current paediatric first aid training. We give basic first aid in an emergency and call 999 where it is needed.
The Room Itself
Kept clean, well lit and ventilated, with electrical equipment visually checked regularly. If one of us is working alone in the building, the main door is secured so nobody can walk in — while the learning space itself stays visible and accessible.
Medical, Allergies and Illness
Two of these are things we do, and two are things we need from you.
We Are Nut-Aware
Please do not send nuts or nut products in with your child. We ask this of every family rather than only those with an allergy in the group, because that is the only version that actually works.
Medication Needs a Plan First
If your child needs medication while they are with us, we agree a written Medical Care Plan with you before tuition starts. Emergency medication — an inhaler, an EpiPen — must be clearly labelled and stays accessible throughout the session.
Please Keep Them Home If They Are Unwell
Specifically, 48 hours clear of sickness or diarrhoea before returning. Tell us as early as you can — see how cancellations work on our fees page.
Tell Us What We Need to Know
Accurate, current information on medical conditions, allergies and emergency contacts. We hold two emergency contacts for every pupil.
Online Lessons
We teach on secure platforms, keep our own backgrounds professional and our cables managed, and build in regular screen breaks to prevent eye strain. A responsible adult must be present or contactable throughout the session, as our Health and Safety Policy requires. That is a condition of the lesson rather than a preference. If Something Happens
Every accident, incident and near miss is written up on an accident report form. We will tell you about any injury when you collect your child — always, and immediately for anything involving the head. A serious injury or dangerous occurrence is reported to the Health and Safety Executive under RIDDOR.
We review this policy every year, and sooner if the law changes or something serious happens.
