Questions Parents Ask Us
If your question isn’t here, phone or email us and we will answer it properly rather than send you a brochure.
Where does tuition take place?
We teach at our dedicated learning space at 41 Turnham Close, Winslow, Buckinghamshire MK18 3GQ, and online for families who cannot travel to Winslow. The room is set up for small groups, with a whiteboard, individual desk space and all the equipment pupils need. Online lessons are live and taught by us, not pre-recorded, and follow the same plan as the in-person group that week. You can choose in person, online, or either when you enquire.
What is the pupil-to-teacher ratio?
We cap every group at six pupils. Any session of four or more pupils is taught by both Mat and Alicia, which gives a ratio of three pupils to each teacher, and means pupils see two teaching approaches rather than one. Smaller sessions are taught by one of us. One-to-one lessons are also available if that suits your child better.
What’s included in the weekly fee?
The fee is all-inclusive. It covers the weekly session, written feedback to you every week, homework marked with comments, online resources and practice papers, video lessons for every question type, termly progress reports, a personalised equipment pack, and all 11+ mock assessments. There is no joining fee and no deposit, and no separate charge for materials or mocks. 11+ tuition is £50 per session; Maths and English is £30 or £40 per session depending on session length.
What if my child has special educational needs?
Tell us when you enquire and we will plan around it. Adjustments are part of how we plan a session rather than an add-on. In practice that can mean coloured overlays or work printed in a different font, extra processing time, shorter tasks with more breaks, or reading questions aloud. If your child has a formal diagnosis or an EHCP, share what you are comfortable sharing and we will use it.
How do I know if my child is making progress?
You get written feedback from us every week, saying what your child worked on, what went well and what to practise at home. Homework comes back marked with comments. Termly progress reports give a fuller picture across the four 11+ subjects, or across maths and English, we hold parents’ evenings each term, and 11+ mock assessments through the year show how your child is coping with a full paper under timed conditions. You can also ask us anything by email or WhatsApp between sessions.
When do sessions run during the year?
11+ preparation runs for approximately 46 weeks a year: term time plus additional sessions through half-terms, Christmas, Easter and Summer. The Transfer Test is sat in September, which makes the summer beforehand the most valuable stretch of the programme. Maths and English can run for the same 46 weeks or term time only, aligned to the Buckinghamshire school calendar, whichever you prefer. We give you a full calendar of dates, including 11+ mock test dates, when you start.
